The above having been established, the Department of Homegirl Security takes enormous umbrage at the remarks of Tim Gunn, purported fashionista, on George Lopez’s talk show. Any woman who must stand, sit, walk in front of cameras, sometimes in the wind, who is past mini-skirt age (an age self-determined by the individual woman) can understand why our turbo-SOS opts for pantsuits. On these pages and elsewhere, Hillary Clinton has, in fact, been dubbed “The Secretary of Style” and not only by older women. Younger women like her fashion sense as well. She is a role model for them.
Confused about her gender? That coming from a fashion maven of the male sex is ironic indeed. Her spring into summer fashions, pictured above are delightfully feminine, breezy, and even a little tease-y! She looks lovely, comfortable in her body (very feminine and curvy) and her clothes.
To do the diligent job that she does and look so exquisite while doing it is spectacular, in our book, and deserves a better review from someone who actually deals with similar work situations (me). I love the look! I have acquired nine ruffled tops, some chiffon like hers, to combine with my pantsuits as a result. . Yes, I also wear pantsuits. I love them! I wear necklaces as well. None of the above make me feel like a boy. I feel deliciously feminine dressed almost exactly the way the SOS is dressed – different suits, different blouses.
So back off Tim Gunn! As for George Lopez, you should be fired. I am boycotting TBS! Does the name Robyn Givhan* mean anything to you? Where is she now, anyway? Anywhere? Seriously. If there is a person on earth who is NOT confused about her gender identity, it is Hillary Clinton. She knows exactly who she is and uses it brilliantly to our advantage. You should be thankful! So back off! Quit your treacherous flaming. She’s our SOS and doing a stupendous job while looking sublime!
I am linking to Jezebel’s report of this idiocy because I love the retort at the end.
Tim Gunn: Hillary Clinton Dresses Like “She’s Confused About Her Gender”
*Givhan remarked about Head Homegirl Hillary showing a tensy bit of cleavage on the Senate floorand caused a huge dust-up. No longer fashion editor at the Washington Post.
I agree. People need to write to TBS and complain. These two men are a waste of space. Lopez is ugly as sin and should look at himself in the mirror before he dares to comment on anyone’s looks. The so called fashion maven was wearing a striped suit with a plaid shirt. The combo was not attractive.
BTW, if anyone is confused about his gender identity it’s Gunn. Ridiculous man!!!

I don’t even get how men get to say what we wear! Oh, wait! Bea! Are we living in Stepford? YIKES! Please don’t go all aprons and lemonade on me

I think we’re more Stepford than we care to admit when it comes to women’s looks. I wrote something about body image a while back, so I’m just quoting myself.

as a latino I tell u I am embarrassed by GL. He is talentless and is sitcom was stupid. He’s not funny he’s more like annoying and abnoxious. I’d rather watch Bill Maher than GL at least he’s funny and entertaining! As for Tim i think he’s jealous of Hillary cuz she can openly wear lady pantsuits!! He could too if he publicly accepts himself.

This is so typical, when they can’t find anything else they go to criticize the cloths, how shallow, and stupid. I love her pantsuits. She beats them at IQ and looks hands down.

Plus she’s damned if she does/damned if she doesn’t – there was also a “cankle” comment, so they would be going off on her if she wore skirts, too. What is she supposed to wear?

I think there is another issue here, which is that the fashion world since the Twiggy era, has consciously and deliberately rejected normal women’s bodies in favor of an ultra-thin, coathanger shaped,, boyish look. The industry likes to say it’s because clothes show better on skinny girls. Well, then, how did they manage fashion shows before 1967, when the average model was a size 8 and there was no size zero. What does it mean that the industry thinks women should be reduced to a zero?
They don’t dare say any of this out loud, so they pick on women like Hillary for syle of dress or “cankles”. There will always be something to complain about because the industry does not like women. It simply wants to control women’s buying habits and keep us hating ourselves so we will buy more to try to “fix” what they want us to believe is “our problem”…hair, weight, body shape, age, wrinkles, and yes, “cankles”. Because if we ever start thinking we are good enough as is, well then that would give us real power…and that can’t happen, right?

Bingo! And so much of it an ideal generated in the minds of men some of whom would be women if they could. Now before anyone thinks I am slamming the “T” in LGBT, I am not. I simply mean it’s unfair and unrealistic to operate off of an ideal.
But then, I never hear them criticizing Liza. So *something else* must bother them about Hillary. Maybe it’s the part of her body between her ears.

Thanks, Jen! Means a major LGBT voice is on her side!

[…] We took Gunn to task here for those remarks. He has remained quiet until now when, in a apparent attempt to redeem himself and gain access to Hillary’s red carpet, he reevaluated her wardrobe and tried to rewrite what he said then. […]
