Yes, THAT list, the one that includes Dana Carvey (co-alum of SNL), Robin Williams, Bill Maher, and Keith Olbermann (among others) who had harsh words for or imitations of our intrepid Homegirl and Secretary of State. In your slick “endorsement” of Sarah Palin on O’Reilly, you fired a shot across MY bow, and I am firing back right into your bulwarks because the entirely unnecessary comments about my Homegirl were out of line, mister! *In my best Sister Mary Ruler Bearer voice*
Here is what you plopped into the middle of your rather insubstantive endorsement for president of the woman who failed to complete more than two years in the post her constituents elected her to.
…as Dennis Miller says, there is probably a bit of a sympathy vote for Clinton, ‘She’s been cheated on more than a blind man playing scrabble with a bunch of gypsies’. Harsh (but undoubtedly true)!
Another point he makes is that Clinton has managed to give an aura of competence when lined up next to the other players in the democratic party right now. Of course, her tendency to laugh at enormously inappropriate times and during serious ceremonies is more than a little off-putting. Not to mention that she laughs The Laugh. That cackle she’s become known for. It’s very off-putting. But by staying a couple of steps away from the inner workings of the Obama Administration, she’s managed to avoid having the air of incompetence flow over her.
I have heard Miller defend and even praise Hillary. I never trusted him when he did that, and my instincts, it appears were good. He turns on her with withered old broomstraws, exaggeration, and personal criticism. Wow! What a manly man you are, Dennis! And, like many (but not ALL, by any means) men you lodge this criticism as if the only judges on earth are men and the only contestants women. As if measuring up to male standards is the only rule.
Tendency to laugh at enormously inappropriate times? I spend a good deal of time following Hillary Clinton. I challenge you to show me the videos! There was one incident, early in her tenure as Secretary of State, I believe she was meeting with the Foreign Minister of Morocco at the time, when she broke up inexplicably when discussing piracy at sea. I will not pretend to know why that happened, but anything could have explained it, including fatigue. It was not sustained. She immediately brought it under control. In the hours of footage of Hillary Clinton that I have followed in the past year, I have never seen her do that again. That, Dennis, equals exaggeration. Arguably, it might have occurred once.
Now THE laugh, that you refer to as a cackle, is her personal laugh and your characterization of it is your personal opinion and amounts to personal criticism. For many reasons, not the least of which are attacks similar to yours, Hillary’s admirers happen to love to see and hear her laugh. In fact, if she does see the video of what you said, I have a feeling (and hope) she will crack up and laugh long and loud because, as she says, “I’m used to that.”
I have no intention of addressing your thesis except to say that comparing a woman who resigned her elected post after a mere two years with a woman who bravely puts on the most cheerful of attitudes and faces while serving her country in dangerous places and in dangerous ways is a false analogy. Excuse me, what is it? Sarah vs. the mean media as opposed to Hillary vs. the terrorists who target her? The analogy is ….what?
Hillary Clinton has faced down dangerous men and made explicit accusations and statements to their faces on their land. She soldiers forth in regions where many are probably plotting against her, and may have (August, Nairobi – enough said). The smile and the laugh are always there and they charm many. She reaches out to populations wherever she goes (unlike her predecessor) putting herself at risk. If you hear it as a cackle, well that is your own personal disorder. We hear the bell of freedom ringing, and we see populations responding.
Some of us, many, when we see and hear Hillary laugh, feel emboldened, braver, as Americans, against the threats we face. And MY opinion is that Hillary has a great sense of humor and a terrific laugh. I love it when our Homegirl laughs! She is beautiful, brave, and funny! (You, on the other hand, are none of the above.)
still4hill, I watched that segment with Miller when it aired. Watch the actual video posted there and then read what that blogger wrote–those weren’t Miller’s words, that was the blogger’s spin. They aren’t the same thing. All that junk about the cackle had nothing to do with what Miller said this time. I roll my eyes whenever Miller says his obligatory punchlines about Hillary being cheated on more than anyone else, and I always wonder if the only reason Miller praises Hillary these days is because she’s not a “threat” anymore or something lame like that– but that aside, Miller was quite complimentary of Clinton and said that he digs what she’s doing and she looks like one of the few in the Admin who looks like she knows what she’s doing or something to that effect. I normally wouldn’t bother talking about Miller’s shtick, but the blogger who wrote about the segment is putting a negative tone on things and threw in the words “sympathy vote,” “cackle,” “aura” of competence, etc…that’s the blogger’s own attitude being projected there.

Whoops, I was trying to rework a sentence there while I was writing and it got jumbled.
Should read… “Miller was quite complimentary of Clinton and said that he digs what she’s doing, that she’s one of the few in the Admin who looks like she knows what she’s doing or something to that effect.”

Thanks. I had not looked at the video since I was posting late at night, and I just wanted to get finished, so: Lesson learned.
That said, though, the possibly related articles turned up another post where (I had forgotten) I had already put him on my list about a Hillary comment.
(LOL – I know you are very careful about your writing. I understood.)
Anyhow, I don’t trust Dennis, and our funny little Head Homegirl is funny enough on her own without having guys MAKING fun of her.
I don’t know, things are suddenly dry and crackly. A spark can set off an explosion since the work week began, and people realized it’s 2010. Or maybe I am seeing a planned offensive rolling out.

If I hadn’t seen the segment for myself, I would have gotten a negative impression of it and been in mood to call it out for what it is too! That blogger was really trying to stir it up, and for what? Madame Sec does her level-best to stay above the Hillary vs. Palin noise. She’s always given really dignified responses every time she’s been baited to say something about Palin. I don’t know how she does it!

I think something concerted is happening just like last spring when, just before Palin resigned, the Hillary forums started to be taken over by Palin people. There is a lot of odd stuff happening, and it is sudden (this week) and large (blogs, Facebook, forums? – I don’t know – stay away from them now).
The 2010 offensive is on, but Hillary cannot be touched. She’s OUT OF POLITICS! And she’s AMAZING!
How did you like Sister Rosetta Tharpe? I just discovered her *whacks self upside the head*.
How did I never know about her?

LOVE the Sister Rosetta Tharpe!
Turns out Dennis Miller’s possible faint praise of Hillary is small potatoes
Halperin is a major creep and his book is pure sleaze.

Love her too!
I have decided not to give that book any publicity. There are no endnotes, and it is unsourced. As far as I am concerned the whole book could be lies, and Harry Reid was a dunce not to deny the comment. Who is going to call him out on it?
I am not going to help those two creeps sell more books. I saw them on CNN tonight, and they were aiming their commentary at the Clintons when PBS had just finished showing all the good things Bill is doing in Haiti (they did not mention Hillary’s efforts there, but I know about that).
And this also on the day of “The Hillary Effect”! Nah! They are not worth my time. Hillary’s work speaks for itself.
They and their viper “reviewer” are not worth time or space here – or links and traffic. I will treat them as Hillary treated North Korea acting like a cranky teenager: ignore them!

I am suspicious of people like Miller and other right wingers when they make a point of being complimentary to Hillary. But one thing I’ll make clear- Hillary is doing a great job at State and has worked hard and is getting respect from many on the left and right. I certainly don’t have a problem with that- Hillary has appealed to people on diff. parts of the political spectrum for a while now.
That said, some of these conservative, pro-GOP pundits have an agenda- the same agenda they had in 2008
– divide and conquer. They know that if they can play off the divisions in the Democratic party then the GOP reaps the benefits. Also, some on the right are actually trying to compare Sarah Palin to Hillary as though they are anything alike.

Yes, Stacy, I see that and have already been flamed this week at FB for SAYING they are nothing alike. I’ll go one step further: If she reminds me of ANYBODY, it is George W. Bush. So I bear in mind the proverb (actually a Chinese one – not from some southern state as he said) that W messed up. “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!”
When you hear them tell you to be vigilant (I hear that from Tea Partiers), by all means do be vigilant, and ask the essential question: Who benefits? When they infiltrate and manipulate, it is always the GOP that benefits.
(But this comes from someone who always thought the term “Reagan Democrat” was an oxymoron, and has not forgotten Nixon’s Dirty Tricksters led by Segretti who trained Karl Rove as one of them.)
When these comedians target Hillary, half the time I think it’s 5th grade stuff like dipping her pigtail in the inkwell, and they actually are sexually attracted to her and don’t know how to handle it. Anyhow, I WILL be vigilant and keep calling them on these infractions.
