Today is Roxana Saberi’s 32nd birthday.  She is spending it on a hunger  strike in prison in Iran on trumped up charges on which she was convicted in a 15 minute trial.  Roxana is a journalist, an American citizen and former Miss North Dakota.

Euna Lee and Laura Ling,  also American journalists are being held in North Korea also as spies.

There were so MANY moments, during Hillary’s testimony on Capitol Hill, that were memorable. She said so much that was incisive, brilliant, concise, and pithy that all of her testimony should be circulated in a way that MSM is not doing (except for CSPAN).  Here is one segment that certainly belongs here on this blog. It highlights how, while we have Hillary’s back and defend her in our blogs and forums, she also has ours. She is speaking out for us, Homegirls, and so eloquently. As The Onion this week described her imaginary new fragrance, Authorité, she brooks no argument. What a woman!

Hillary (and Bill) are in a battle against the deadly carrier of malaria, the Anopheles mosquito. While we’re at it, we should also raise awareness of the Aedes Aegypti, carrier of dengue fever, another deadly tropical disease.

On another note, I hope it’s okay to mention Hillary and Bill in the same post in their professional capacities.   We would not want to effect any appearance of collusion between State and The William J. Clinton Foundation.   But, hey!  This is an important battle.  Big institutions like these should be engaged in a coordinated effort, even if the CEO’s are in bed together (a mental image I find charming and adorable).

Secretary of Homeland Security

Secretary of Homeland Security

Homegirl Security has learned that malicious elements at the Department of Homeland Security are inexplicably targeting American citizens,  and we find this intolerable. A report surfaced this week citing groups and behaviors that DHC concludes bear watching. Oddly, none of the groups or activities are in any way related to the terror attacks of 9/11/01 (which provided the impetus for the creation of the DHC to begin with). Brought up short by criticism on several sides, including from the Democratic Chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, Napolitano offered first a Greek apologia and later a half-hearted, still defensive apology. But for many, none of that is enough. Given that “returning vets” were targeted (which Napolitano defended by citing Timothy McVeigh), the basis of the report is in question.

Homegirl Security finds that this is the most recent and most serious in a series of missteps and demonstrations of ineptitude by Napolitano. While she did accompany Obama to Mexico this weekend, we wonder why her silence on the issue of border violence was deafening for weeks back in February, and why, when she did speak she denied the leakage. Instead of taking the reins on the issue, she scheduled a late afternoon meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and, next we knew, Hillary was off on a diplo mission to Mexico. Now, that might have been appropriate for the SoS anyway, but it engendered visions of Janet hiding under her desk.

More recently, the capture of a U.S flag ship, the Maersk Alabama, and the taking of the Captain as hostage appeared to be the perfect incident upon which the new Secretary of HS might base her maiden voyage into international waters – perhaps in conjunction with the Pentagon and Secretary Gates. But wrong again! Once again, Hillary stepped in, with Gates, and cobbled a plan of action. Why Hillary? The last time I looked, we had no embassy on the high seas, and in addition, the FBI, now operating under the umbrella of Homeland Security, was brought into the picture.

By the time the crisis came to an end, the appearance of a Secretary of Homeland Security in absentia was complete – until this week when the report was released and everyone could see that for Napolitano, drug cartels operating in the US and Mexico and fomenting violence on both sides of the border, and lawless pirates at sea apprehending American vessels and crew were not the enemy she has in her cross hairs. No, the enemy Napolitano suggests surveilling are her fellow American citizens.

How many days in office and acts of incompetence does it take for someone to holler, “Enough!”? For some, that point has been reached. Janet, do everyone a favor and resign.

Meanwhile, at the Summit of the Americas, a particularly fierce looking Hillary Clinton took a sheepish-looking Venezuelan dictator into custody, proving, once again, that a little charm and suasion and the guts to step up to the plate go a long way. And he did not DARE try to give HER a book!

You have the right to remain silent.

"You have the right to remain silent."

Now, you know I just HAD to get that last little piece in there so I could post this priceless picture of the Homegirl looking totally hot.

Here is Our Homegirl as heroine! She is tough, organized, specific – (hey! just like in the primaries!) and seems to be organizing all this on her own over there at Foggy Bottom. Go Hillary! We’re right behind you!

Dr. Orly Taitz, of multiple birth certificate (and other documents) lawsuit fame, has crossed the line from potential hero to potential (or perhaps actual) villain. Until now, many PUMAs have supported and even participated in lawsuit challenges to Barack Obama’s presidential eligibility on the grounds that he perhaps has held citizenships other than American in violation of Article II of The Constitution of the United States. Orly Taitz is among the most active of lawyers filing such suits, and her self-proclaimed success recently garnered her a great deal of publicity and support in PUMA quarters – until two nights ago – the night a small but active community of Hillary supporters discovered that Orly has filed a writ of mandamus for request of documents from Pakistan, Indonesia, Kenya, and the UK and named Hillary Clinton. No, she did NOT name “The Secretary of State” as an official who might access documents from another country. She named our Homegirl, Hillary Clinton.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (C) speaks with German Vice-Chancellor and Foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier (L) and German Defence minister Franz Josef Jung as they arrive in the western German town of Baden-Baden on April 3, 2009. Obama and Merkel met for bilateral talks ahead of the two-day NATO summit.

There is division now among Hillary’s folks (I will not characterize them according to sex, since many of these supporters are MEN, y’all!). Some believe this to be a proper request and that Hillary is the logical or legally correct person to name. Some think it is problematic, but that Hillary will come out of this unscathed. I happen to think the naming itself has injured her.

Even if this writ were withdrawn tomorrow, Hillary’s name has been floated. The suggestion, from way last year has been that “the Clintons ‘know’ and should have said something, done something.” Well, I think like all of us the Clintons suspect and did back then. Why could WE not do something? No evidence. So what were Bill and Hillary supposed to do? They had no evidence either. Neither did John McCain.

To put Hillary in the path of this cannonball is unnecessary, dangerous to her, and not in the best interest of the American people who, right now, are benefitting from the yeoman’s job Hillary is doing as Secretary of State. Aside from being immensely popular abroad, she is intensely dedicated to performing her tasks at optimum performance.

We need this kind of dedication and ability at State right now. To name her this way could result in putting her in an untenable situation and threaten her ability to carry out her duties on the international stage. Hillary does not, in this post, need the distraction of a domestic crisis other than the ones she is already dealing with.

At worst, this could cause her either to resign or be replaced. Well, Orly might not care about that, but I and many PUMAs do. Backlash from many sides could hurt our Homegirl in myriad ways. Having vowed to defend her, we raise our shields around Hillary.

No Orly, wrong move. Hillary’s star is rising both here and abroad like a supernova. Maybe it was that missile that you were aiming at. But you have lost my support and that of some rather influential PUMA leaders. We will not countenance this. Period.
